Monoethylene Glycol (MEG)
The base glycol of antifreeze and polyester production.
CAS No 107-21-1Glycols & Glycol Ethers
Soluble in both water and oil; the bridging solvent of cleaning and coatings.
Because butyl glycol mixes with both the aqueous and the organic phase, it is the component that determines the effectiveness of degreasing cleaners. In waterborne paints it acts as a coalescent that enables film formation. It also appears in brake fluids and metalworking fluids.
The product descriptions on this site are informational texts explaining where each product is used, and do not replace a technical specification. The binding information for formulation and process decisions is the technical data sheet (TDS) and safety data sheet (SDS) of the batch delivered. Before moving to a new application we recommend requesting a sample and running a preliminary trial under your own conditions.
